The Name

Les Peyriers is the original name given to the plot of land on which the house was built. It was also once the term used to identify the craftsmen specialized in stoneworks.

It is the name we initially chose to identify the construction project which took almost 6 years to complete and which we have kept to for the current location and house.

The Project

The desire to build a house close to where one of us grew up started many years ago and slowly became reality. The house we chose to build is unique as it was designed with all caracteristics of the site as the starting point. The terrain, sun exposure, dominating winds, altitude, temperatures, building materials, etc were all elements that played an important part in the design. These are the principles of passive housing or habitat.

The construction started in September 2009 with the digging and pourring of the foundation. The work stopped during the winter because of below-zero temperatures and started again in late May 2010 with the building of the outside stone walls. By the end of 2011, the house was fully closed with all windows and doors installed and the roof fully slated.

Initially, we hopped the house would be welcoming its first guests early in 2012… We should have known better that with these types of projects, timing (and budget) are always grossly underestimated. We are now in 2016 and are just starting to accept our first bookings.
